Twitter: Is a place to post your thoughts about anything as long as it’s 280 words or less. Like other forms of social media, twitter can be used just for social reasons but also for a way to market oneself. There are twitter accounts for news outlets that keep followers updated on current events with short tweets. There are important figures such as major scholars, business professionals, and government officials that use it as a way to express their view points or be more transparent about their goals to those who are interested. Twitter is a fast and easy way to get one’s thoughts across. It can be used as a tool to market oneself without having to make an entire profile page. It is a place to answer questions and start a very informal conversation. Like other social media sites there is the option to retweet which is essentially just sharing an idea.
Facebook: Is a social media platform that usually requires much more effort and reveals much more information about one’s life due to the fact that all life events are asked about. It is a place for people to connect when they haven’t seen each other in a while- like an old college friend or long distant family member. It is a place to share your life events giving you the option to post albums of pictures, post messages about what’s going on with you, a place to share good news and bad about one’s personal life. Facebook for the most part is more intimate than other social media sites such as Twitter, Instagram, or LinkedIn. But like the other forms of social media, Facebook can be a place to express one’s thoughts and views about current events. Facebook allows you to post and share articles, videos, links to websites. People start Facebook pages to market their businesses. There is the social aspect or creating an event to invite your friends too informing them about an upcoming party or charity event. Facebook is now a big platform where people donate to and learn about different charities. You typically don’t see important figures on Facebook as your friend because like I mentioned in the beginning it is more a personal site where you can pick and choose who can view your posts.
Instagram: This is an interesting social media platform as it is just posting pictures and videos. Sure, you can add short comments or captions but typically your story is being told by pictures. Although Instagram has a very large social presence, people use Instagram to market their businesses as well. Pretty much all big firms, universities, and charities have their own Instagram accounts to post pictures about what they have been up to. Instagram isn’t really a place for facts or current events, although on same occasions President Trump will use Instagram to do so.
LinkedIn: This form of social media is directed at networking for people in the work force. Like the other social media platforms already discussed you can chat with people and post and share videos or articles but these tend to be more focused on business, economics, and the law. The chatting and networking is between working professionals within similar industries who wants to get to know one another or to network for job positions. It is a great platform for recruiters and job seekers. It is also a great place to reach out to alum from your university or friends of friends who would be able to help you in your job search. This is not really an intimate form of social media.

I agree with you Facebook is more intimate and personal than Twitter since you can do more than just write and share links on it. However, they both help start conversations and do show current events through links to articles. However, LinkedIn is less intimate since it is used to make professional connections.
ReplyDeleteI agree that Facebook seems like a place with more information about you being told. When i visited the site and took a look at the bio, there were many details that can be filled out by the user. I thought it was very personal and if you are filling out that information you should have privacy settings on so you know exactly who is allowed to view that information.
